Invisalign® FAQ in Atlanta, GA
Invisalign® is one of the most requested orthodontic treatments in the trend-setting city of Atlanta because it allows patients to beautify their smiles without anybody noticing. Below board-certified orthodontists Dr. Ruchir Patel and Dr. Kal Thakkar, leaders of iClear Orthodontics, have provided answers to some of the questions that are asked most frequently about the clear aligners during consultations at our offices in Alpharetta, Roswell, and Kennesaw.
What is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® uses clear aligners that look similar to tooth-whitening trays to straighten your teeth. Similarly to braces, the clear aligners apply pressure to direct your teeth into the right position; however with Invisalign®, no brackets or wires are used. Others often cannot tell that you are undergoing orthodontic treatment.
How does Invisalign® Straighten Teeth?
Invisalign® trays are custom made for you based on cutting-edge 3D digital impressions. The impressions are used to create sets of clear aligner trays that move your teeth and bite from their existing condition to the ideal position for you. The trays use pressure, like braces do with brackets and wires, to gradually guide your teeth into position over time. Every two weeks, a new set of aligners is used until the desired result is achieved.
Do Invisalign® Clear Braces Really Work?
Many patients have had excellent results using Invisalign® clear aligners. The technology works best for older teenagers and adults who require slight to moderate orthodontic treatment. When used appropriately, Invisalign® can successfully close gapped teeth, give crowded teeth more space and align crooked teeth. A consultation with Preferred Invisalign® Providers Dr. Ruchir Patel and Dr. Kal Thakkar will help you determine whether you or a family member would be a good candidate.
Are Invisalign® Aligners Comfortable?
Patients report that wearing Invisalign® clear braces for the recommended 22 hours per day does not pose any challenges. Brand new aligners may cause some pressure, but the sensation is typically gone within a couple of days. The aligners can even be worn during contact sports since there is no risk of anything cutting your mouth.
How Often Must I Wear My Aligners?
Invisalign® clear braces are worn all day and night unless you are eating or cleaning your aligners. It is important to commit to wearing the aligners for 22 hours per day to guarantee optimum results.
Will I Have Any Food Restrictions?
Invisalign® clear aligners are removed when you eat so you can continue to enjoy all of your favorite foods without anything being forbidden. While you are wearing your aligners, it is best to limit beverages to cold water to ensure that your aligners are not stained or distorted.
Will Invisalign® affect my speech?
Initially, you may be unaccustomed to wearing Invisalign® clear braces, and you may notice a mild lisp. After a short period of time, the lisp will disappear, and your speech will return to normal.
How Will I Clean My Invisalign® Aligners?
Cleaning your Invisalign® aligners is fast and easy. You can use a toothbrush with toothpaste or simply soak them in denture cleaner or Invisalign® crystals for 15 minutes.
How Often Must I Go Back to the Orthodontist?
Every six weeks, you will visit iClear Orthodontics to have Dr. Patel or Dr. Thakkar check your progress and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan.
How Long Will My Invisalign® Treatment Take?
Like any type of orthodontia, the length of your Invisalign® treatment will depend on factors such as your age and the amount of movement required to produce the desired results. During your consultation at iClear Orthodontics, Dr. Patel and Dr. Thakkar will give you a realistic time estimate as part of your treatment plan.
Will I Need to Wear a Retainer After My Treatment is Complete?
Post-treatment retainers are a necessity. Without retainers, your straightened teeth can revert to their initial position. Wearing retainers will protect your new smile.
